When I got the Blackberry Bold from off of Ebay I was sort of worried that I might like it better than my Pre3 but after playing around with it for a couple of days I am not in the least bit worried. Before I go any further I must point out that whatever I say about the Blackberry don't take offence, the important thing is that you are comfortable with what you use so if you're happy with it that's the main thing and it doesn't really matter what I think. Secondly I have to confess to not having a proper sim card for it therefore I have sort of crippled it but even so I must say that I'm very surprised that the Bold isn't a better phone than it is. I always thought them to be some sort of super phone and expected to be comparing it to my Pre3 but honestly there is no comparison and feel that it is fairer to compare it to my old Palm Treo 680, and even then if I hadn't just paid £100 for it I would put it in a draw and forget about it and go back to the Treo. As far as the Pre3 goes just about everything is better about it than the Bold. As for comparing it to the Treo it's swings and round a bouts. Some things are better on one and somethings are better on the other. I like the look of the Blackberry, it feels nice in the hand and I like the optical trackpad thingy. I miss having a touch screen though and keep on finding myself tapping the screen. The Calendar is okay but not as good on the Treo, Tasks is rubbish, it really is very basic. The Memos and Address book are okay. I managed to get Facebook and Twitter to work okay through WiFi but I am very disappointed that there doesn't seem to be a way to pick up email when connected to WiFi or at least if there is I can see how - even my old Sony Clie can do that! I even downloaded the Yahoo IM and MSN and neither of those work either so it's not good. The Camera takes better pics than the Treo also it has a standard Jack plug where as I need an adaptor for the Treo. The music player works okay and I think the Docs apps may be better than on the Treo although it's only Documents To Go which you can put in the Treo as well so maybe there is no difference, I just can't say as I never use them. Talking of Apps - don't anyone ever say anything about the WEBOS app store to me again. WEBOS keeps getting slated for not having like 10 million apps, from what I can see of the Blackberry App Store it's way worse than the one for WEBOS and they cost a fortune.

Anyway I will leave you with a picture of the three phones, the Treo isn't retired yet, it's just on holiday.

Oh yes I meant to say, you're probably wondering, if the Pre3 is so good why do I need another phone. Well because it's so good and virtually irreplaceable and because the work I do sometimes is not kind to phones what with the dirt and water etc. I have calls forwarded to the Treo and take that to work with me. I keep a diary of the work I do in the calendar app for future reference, I listen to music and maybe TXT or phone on break times, so the Bold does what I want it to do but overall no better than the Treo does.

I got the Blackberry Bold 9700 that I bought on Ebay today. Below is a picture of it although what you see is a much cleaned up version of what I received. I know it's used but I would never have set out a phone covered in dust as this one was when I got it. If you looked at it you would have thought it had just come off a building site. Another thing that amazes me is that the previous owner left loads of pictures and music on the phone. I haven't opened it up yet but I'm assuming that he/she left the memory card in it, if so I will contact them to see if they want the pictures returning although I would imagine not as I'm sure the phone must sync them with a PC if it was ever connect to one.

Well I can't tell you much about the phone yet as I have literally only just opened it, cleaned it and had a look whats on it and that's it. I am away to take a closer look at it now.

Is the Pre3 back cover compatible with the Touchstone?

Yesterday I ordered a Touchstone for my Pre3 phone.

I would have bought one before now but was under the impression that one needed to also buy a compatible back for the phone for it to work. I put in an order for a Touchstone when I had my Pre2 and for that phone I also had to buy the back cover and that's why I thought it would be the same for the Pre3 but after reading some comments on a Youtube video it seems that the Pre3 back cover comes already enabled to work with the Touchstone so I took the plunge in the hope that what I read is right.

Last night I bit on and won the above Blackberry Bold 9700, and before you all get thinking I'm fed up with my HP Pre3 already I will tell you now that you are wrong to think that. In fact nothing could be further from the truth, I think my Pre3 is a great phone and can't believe HP are such a useless company.

Anyway the reason for the Blackberry will probably be obvious to anyone who knows me and therefore knows me passion for gadgets. I love to play with new gadgets, I've had a little go on a friend Blackberry Curve which was okay except they wanted it back before I got in depth with it. So I was a bit bored the other night and decided to relieve that boredom by browsing Ebay which resulted in me bidding on a few Blackberry phones before winning this one. I was prepared to bit up to £120 including postage, all the others I bid on went over that price and I was thinking that maybe I was expecting to much for my money and was actually looking at some Blackberry Curves when I won the Bold for £97.00 so I was quite pleased with that although I need to see what condition it's in before I do to much celebrating. But if it works okay and I can check out the features and compare it to my Pre3 I will be happy.

Anyway I will let you know how that works out when I get it which is stated as being 6 - 8 days. It is quite annoying that it is going to take so long, don't people realise when you buy something you just want to get it and play with it. Come on guys, don't be such tight bottoms - pay the postage! It might be old news to you but to me it's a new toy and I just want to get my hands on it!!!

How to void a stab in the back.

Yesterday I had planned on going to see my friend Megan at the stables but my plans changed on Friday when I met my friend called Ollie, he's not a boy friend as such but a friend who is a boy. He attends the same college as I do but he is in the agricultural department whereas I'm studying horticulture. Anyway we always try and meet up at lunch times just for a chat and what have you.

This week he was telling me how it was his mum's birthday on Saturday (yesterday) and how they were all going out for a meal. I asked if he bought her a nice present and a card because I know what some of you guys are like - I know what me dad is like! He replied quite proudly that he had and when I asked what he got her he said a set of five kitchen knives! I'm afraid to say at this point I think I was a little unkind as I laughed and said, 'You haven't'?!

I could tell I had upset him so quickly tried to back pedal by saying that is a nice useful present but I'm worried you might end up being the knife rack if you don't buy her something else to go with it. That seemed to settle him a bit and we discussed things she might like as well as the knife set but didn't really come to a conclusion as Ollie like a lot of men don't seem to notice things like perfume etc. In the end I decided to take pity on him and help him out by telling him to go in to his mum's bedroom tonight when she was not around and make a note of such things as brands of perfume, jewelry or even underwear but warned him about getting caught going through his mum's underwear draw. I then arranged to meet him at the entrance to the bus station in town at 1pm the next day (Saturday).

Thankfully he had been a good boy and done his homework well and was waiting for me when I got there with a nice list, so off we set first of all to McDonalds for something to eat before setting off around the shops looking for something on the list. There was obviously plenty to choose from so it was just a matter of deciding what she might like the best with the money Ollie had to spare. In the end we decided to settle for something like this.

This is a picture from the web just to give you an idea and not a picture of the actual bracelet. We decided on this because if she likes it and uses it Ollie won't have such a problem thinking of something to buy her next time because he can just get her a new set of beads for the chain which can be opened up and so allowing the beads to be added or taken away at will.

So that was my day yesterday - well we did have a Chinese take away last night but that's another story.

Tonight as I was on the way home from college there promised to be a most awesome sunset so I hurried and got changed so that I could get out with my camera while there was some light left to take some silhouette's of trees against the lovely sky. It was already freezing before the sun was properly down but I didn't really feel the cold. Below are the results of my efforts, I hope you enjoy them.

Something weird happened today - well not actually weird, perhaps interesting is a better word.

When the foreman was dishing out the jobs this morning I was told to report to the caretaker at the big house. I'm not sure why I was the chosen one as it was quite heavy work, I suspect that he, the foreman knew this wouldn't go down to well with anyone and as I'm the trainee I got the rough end of the stick as usual but as I'm always being told - we all have to start somewhere!

I hadn't a clue where I was going but found someone who told me I would probably find the caretaker in his room wherever that was. I was instructed to turn this way, that way and the other way but after several turns it became apparent that I had got the various turns in the wrong order and ended up in the kitchen where everyone looked at me like I was an alien.

Before I go on I will just point out that even though everyone works for the big house, the outdoor workers such as the parks department, the farmers and gardeners etc. don't really get to see many of what are known as the house staff. I do get to go into the house with the deputy head gardener sometimes to see to the pot plants they have about the place. We swap them, spruce them up and water but mostly we never see anyone. Of course I know a few people from out of work, the illusive caretaker being one of them, he is actually our next door neighbour to our left so I know him well.

Well anyway back to the task in hand which was to track down Mick the caretaker. Thankfully this guy from the kitchen decided it was easier to show me than try to explain so I set off after him through the maze of corridors eventually arriving at a door marked 'Caretaker'. Paul who was the guy showing me the way knocked on the door and walked in and there was Mick painting a wooden bench. After a briefing about the task before us over a long drawn out cup of tea we set off back through the corridors with a trolley to eventually arrive at a flight of stairs. We left the trolley at the bottom and I followed mick up and up and up right to a flat at the very top of the house. We followed an 'L' shaped corridor around to the left, in to a small kitchen and then though a door on to a roof terrace. This is where the work started.

Apparently the flat was until recently occupied by one of the housekeepers who had left on bad terms and because of this had left behind quite a bit of stuff that needed to be cleared away before the new housekeeper could be moved in. Mick had been clearing out things from the flat all week so there was only the plants and pots on the roof terrace to be moved now which is why they thought it would be a great idea to send a gardener - because it had to do with plants! We were tasked with carrying everything down to the service courtyard where I was to later pick up all the plants and pots with a tractor and trailer and take then to the gardens where I suspect most will eventually end up on the dump.

Anyway after several trips up and down the stairs Mick point out that my boot lace was undone so I stopped to tie it and then set off up the stairs after Mick. I soon caught him up as he is quite old and not very fit. Apart from the first time I had always led the way upstairs as Mick liked to take his time. Shortly after catching him he said over his shoulder, 'You're not looking at my bottom are you'?

This totally took me by surprise because it had never entered my head to look at his bottom, but he said it in a way that made is seem like it was an obvious thing to be doing.

I truthfully answered with a laugh that I wasn't but the other truth was that now that he had mentioned it I couldn't stop looking at his bottom. Not that there was very much bottom in evidence, it all looked like black baggy trousers to me but I did for some unknown reason wonder as I was watching it's slow ponderous movement up the final flight of stairs just where his testicles fitted in to all this baggy movement. I had this overwhelming urge to reach out and investigate, I wanted to know if they were drooping like and old woman's breasts, what sort of movement did they make when climbing stairs. I know that if I wasn't wearing a bra I would be doing a bit of jiggling around. That was it though we had reached the top of the stairs and the moment was gone, never to be repeated, not that I would have dared put any kind of investigation in to practice. I've spend the time since taking moments to think about what happened and the effect it's had on me. Mick is not at all attractive so why have I suddenly developed the urge to delve deep in to his underpants? I even found myself checking out my dad's mate tonight when he popped in with some kindling sticks.

Last night mum bought me some Truffle Logs from the shop next door to where she works. They are at the end of their sell by date so they were getting rid of them. I love truffles but I really don't need the temptation when I'm trying to watch my weight, she really is cruel!

I've not said much about my Pre3 since I got it, that's not because I don't like it or can't find anything good to say about it, just the opposite in fact. It's hard to imagine why anyone would not like it to be honest. The shape it really nice, bigger screen but slimmer than the Pre 2, also there are non of the sharp edged brick like features that seem to plague a lot of the new phones on release at the moment. I love the physical keyboard too, the keys are nice to press and it's easy to write quite an amount. The slide out mechanism is good with a smooth firm feel to it, the screen is nice to view and of course with WEBOS the phone is a joy to use. The camera takes good pictures and has a flash and autofocus, for normal photo's the quality is good to the point of there being no need to take a camera along when I go to places, the only thing I wish it had was an option to reduce the size of the photo as really they are way bigger than they need be when it comes to emailing to my blog or whatever. Anyway the Pre3 is way the best phone I have ever used, it looks classy, works great and is very easy and fast to use thanks to it's multi tasking capabilities.

News Of My Refund.

This morning I woke to good news, or at least it appears to be. This is part of a mail I recieved from the people dealing with the HP TouchPad claims. "Dear HP customer, Your order has been released for further processing.

The payment will be transferred within 45 days to the account stated by you at registration."

After I found out about all the stuff going down about the Pre and TouchPad getting discontinued I was pretty peed off as you can imagine so I read more and found that people were claiming compensetion so I went and joined the queue because I pre-ordered mine from amazon and therefore paid a high price for something that was no longer being produced and I only had it a few weeks. I wrote to amazon and complained that I felt ripped off by them and they offer me just over £14.40 compensation! Figure that one out if you can, where did they get £14.40 from? Anyway getting no joy from them I decided to check out the HP website and there was a form that you could fill in if you paid full price for the Touchpad which I did so I filled in the form and sent off all the proof they required and the mail I got this morning was as a result of that so now I'm even more of a TouchPad, Pre WEBOS fan. They are going to refund the difference between the fire sale price and the £480 I paid for it from Amazon.

I checked out Ebay for you guys earlier and some of the best prices I could see was [HERE], [HERE] and [HERE], there was one for £480 which is way to much in my opinion, So the price if creeping up so I'd get in quick if you want one. I wish I wasn't broke I would get mum one for Christmas.

The TouchPad Keyboard.

Tonight I am going to show you a couple of pictures of the TouchPad keyboard. I find the keys are very nicely spaced and even with a number row permanently in place the screen doesn't feel crowded. I like the fact that you don't have to press anything to bring up the number pad as I always think this is a bit of a faff.

Also on the keyboard in the bottom right corner there is a button to take down the keyboard if you wish. This button also has another feature built in to it. If you touch and hold the button there pops up an option to alter the size of the keyboard, as you will see I have mine set to medium as highlighted by the blue letter 'M'.

Going back to the number row, as with any keyboard the number keys also double up as symbol keys too just as they do on a normal keyboard.

The Calling

Today I made my first phone call through my Touchpad. To do this you have to connect to the Pre3. It said it said something about Skype when I first turned it on but I sort of think it was just going through my phone which is a pointless in a way reeally but it was fun to try. That's about all I did with it today so far but I may do some surfing if I don't go to bed.

Popupcalc.

Tonight I did a couple of things that need to be reported on this blog. Firstly I downloaded 'Popupcalc' click [HERE] for more details. The thing I like about this is that it is placed in the notification dashboard and as a result is always available at just a single touch without having to leave the page that you're working on. So for instance if you're in the middle of lets say writing a blog post and dad wants to know what 2 and 2 is you just touch the little icon at the top of the screen next to the time and battery icon and up pops the calculator and it will even stay there while you continue to write up your blog - I haven't even figured out how to do that on my desktop yet so it's well cool. The other thing I did was to order the 'HP Touchpad Official Keyboard (wireless) UK Version' That is something I was expecting to be doing later as I'm now just about broke but I was afraid that now they have discontinued making the hardware it may not be possible to get one in the future although having said that I think any bluetooth keyboard will work, I know for sure that the 'I-Go' one does as I have tried the one that I have and for sure this would have done but I just fancied having all the right stuff. So anyway it's costing me £34.99 from Ebay. One good thing about having a discontinued product is that once you have all the stuff you know they aren't going to be bringing something else out so you know when you've finished paying out on it.

New phone - Or White Elephant.

I got my new phone today. It looks very similar to the Pre2 but is bigger and quite a bit slimmer which means it has a larger viewing area. It still has the slide out keyboard that I like so much about these phones. This one also connects to the TouchPad via Bluetooth but I haven't gone in to all that stuff yet. Another thing I love about WEBOS is that when you get new hardware once you sign it in to your account everything that was on the old device is on the new one straight away, you don't even need to connect it to the computer or anything. The APPS, txts mail - well I can't name it all but you get the picture.

After much deliberation I've decided that if HP want to quit on WEBOS they can get on with it, I on the other hand am not only pressing on with my plans but because of what's happened am bringing them forward even if it breaks the bank for a while. Today I found a company offereing a 24 month contract on a Pre3 and this is for £10 a month for 100 free minutes and 500 txts a month so I went ahead and set up the contract. I like my Pre2 very much, it seems well made and has worked fine and didn't plan on replacing it just yet but as things are I wanted to be sure of getting a Pre3 as that is the phone which is designed to work with the TouchPad. If you don't own a TouchPad then the Pre2 is a good phone and should be able to get one at a good price on Ebay right now. To visit the site where I'm getting my Pre3 click [HERE].

Sexy beast!!! It is turned on and the screen is way brighter than it looks in this picture, I think the camera flash has made it dark like this.

Well I can't really say a lot about it yet as I've not played with it properly. My first impressions are very good though. It's lovely to hold, perhaps even the second best thing I ever held in my whole life! I've been a bit worried I must admit because I've read reviews that it is heavy and I saw a review done by the BBC and the presenter made it out to be like a brick or something but really it's not in the least bit heavy, or at least if you do find it heavy I think you would be better off using your TouchPad money on a gym subscription because you have serious muscle probs!

After getting used to me HP Pre 2 I have decided to buy the HP Touchpad which is soon to be released. Up until now I haven't really been interested in owning a tablet and am only buying this because it runs WEBOS and it has several features that allow it and the Pre to interact with each other. I don't know if any of the other tablets have this feature but I've never been a sheep and always preferred to be different from the crowd even if the route I take is more troubled, often that fact alone can make the experience more rewarding. Anyway I have ordered it from Amazon for a total prise of £486.00 but I won't get it until the release date which is around mid July - can I wait that long!!

I'm starting to get the hang of my new phone now and I have to say that so far I really love it. The display is made of glass whereas the Treo's and Centro's was sort of soft to the touch, also you needed and stylus or fingernail but with the Pre you just slide your finger over the screen and everything moves so slick that I could spend time just moving stuff around lol!

The back is made of what feels like hard rubber or plastic coated rubber or something, the effect makes it very grippy.

When you first switch it on you have to make an account around which everything seems to revolve. All your settings and apps and probably other things too are backed up to this account so that if something happens to your phone you can easily reinstate it just by signing in to your account. So I did all that and have spent quite some time exploring. It seems there are three pages, entitled Applications, Extras and System and the different apps are store in the appropriate pages and to get to reach page you just swipe it sideways. The bit I like is when you have an app open you just swipe it up to put it on standby while you work on another and then you can either touch it to open it back up fully or swipe it up to close it, it sort of goes swoosh and disappear out of the top of the display.

I am finding it very easy to use and so far no problems at all.

My new phone arrived today, I've been so looking forward to it that I couldn't concentrate on anything. I didn't dare leave the place in case it got delivered and there was no one here to sign for it.

It is a very sexy beast I must admit. I've read loads about how the original Palm pre's were poorly built and not very good quality but I'm hoping that since HP took over the quality has improved. It certainly feel nice to hold and I love the physical keyboard. Some say they are a bit t small but I'm used to small keypads having had Treo's and Centro's so I don't find it any problem at all.

I bought a Palm Pre 2

Tonight I bought a Palm Pre 2 smart phone from someone on Ebay. It's a brand new device that has cost me £121.00.

Up to this point I have always avoided the lure of the touchy feely type phones preferring to stay with my Palm Treo's but for some reason that escapes me I decided to bite the bullet and checked out Ebay. I bid on one earlier but missed it so I was quite thrilled when I landed this one, especially as I got it for a few pounds less than the one I lost out on.

Anyway now starts the waiting game, I will let you see it when I get it.
